While reading Men's Men from Steve Craig, I found it very interesting in how ads target a specific group of people. Advertisements have a primary group of people that they target such as gender, age, religion, interests, and much more. For example, in my reading of Men's Men I found that in a great amount of advertisements for men there is usually a male figure somewhere in a “utopia” like location using the product being promoted. For example, a man is at a nice beach drinking some a specific brand of beer, a group of men watching sports drinking alcohol, and a man or men in a flashy bar or club surrounded by beautiful women while drinking a certain brand of alcohol. These ads are promising that if you buy their product you will have the same experience as the men in the advertisement. The person being targeted is going to be drawn into the advertisement from the environment or experience the man is having, then will want the same experience, which will be the partial cause for the target going and buying the product that is being promoted. But what the viewer doesn’t know is that these experiences are just a fake reality or more as a show that the companies put on to draw in customers to boost their sales.
